It is important, whatever product you are making that you write comments for your product covering all the human factors below.
 
     Health and Safety
     Economic Factors (Cost)
     The Human Environment
     Aesthetics (Taste)
     Ergonomics (Feel)
 

Whether you are designing an electric toaster or a shopping centre all the factors on this page will be taken into account in your design and you should devote one or two pages in your folder to comment on these human factors.

Health and Safety

There are health and safety issues with all electronic products.  What would happen to your company if you designed an electric drill that had electrical or mechanical faults when it was used?  What if you designed a balcony for a building with railings too short and someone fell off, who would be responsible.  Or you design a chair that is uncomfortable to sit in and it causes back problems.  Follow these links to design failures.

Economic Factors (Cost)

If you build a kitchen with gold handles to all the units, either your company will go bankrupt or no one will be able to afford to buy your kitchen design.  Or what if you design a car with all the latest safety features, very light carbon fibre pannels, titanium chassi, but again no one could afford to buy it.  Or how about you make a dinning table out of the cheapest materials you can find and two months later customers bring back what they have bought and ask for their money back because one of the legs has fallen off?

The Human Environment

Your product will involve a user and a task such as a person writing a letter with a gel pen.  It could involve much more complicated physical considerations such as noise, illumination, and climate.  An air conditioning system that is too noisey, or a kitchen that is badly lit and damp could all lead to safety problems.  Also consider the vulnerability of human beings, your capabilities and limitations.  What if you design a car that can travel so fast that no one can control it.  Or road signs that are too small to read.  Doors in a cafe that open either way.  You could bump into someone on the other side.

Aesthetics (Taste)

What the product looks like.  It considers a complete evaluation of all the phsical factors that a product is made up of, colour, shape, form, sound.  Psychologists try to turn aesthetics into a science, but it isnt.  Aesthetics is a quetion of personal taste in art, design, and music.

Ergonomics (Feel)

Physical factors primarily to do with the size of the human body and its relation of comfort to the made product.  Ergonomics is a science.  It takes in to account individual human factors of height, weight,  size, and age, to make average models.  So an average adult male weighs 90kg, therefore the lift that I have designed can hold 8 persons (or 720kg) safely.  Ergonomic factors take into account differences of height, weight,  size, and age between males and females, but dont work well with exceptions to the rules, an exceptionally heavy person, or exceptionally tall person, etc..etc..
